Using cash forecasting

ouldn't it's nice to be able to predict the future? This would be particularly useful for small business owners try to predict trends and assess future cash flows.

Well, it's far from an exact science, but the good news is that you can use the cash flow forecasts to assess trends and to take control of your business.

Provide your expenses

It is the easiest to forecast cash flow because you already know much of the history of your expenses (salaries, office rental, etc.).

You must use both the history of your costs in combination with the numbers already allocated and promotional costs for the future to determine the average monthly overheads.

You will find that even the bills that can vary on a monthly basis, such as telephone bills and office supplies, a monthly average.

There will be other, a reduction of expenses you will need to put money aside for - as an exhibition of bills or the year. Set aside enough money each month to cover these expenses when they are born. For example, an exhibition on the costs? 5000, set aside? 416.66 each month to be sure you can afford it next year too.

When you take into account all these costs and come with your monthly average, you now have your break-even. This is the minimum monthly amount you need to break even every month in your business.

Knowing this can help focus your mind on what you should do so that this minimum is reached each month. Just know what your goal is will benefit your business.

Provide your income

Forecast income from your business is, unfortunately, much more delicate than the forecast of your spending. It is of course even more difficult if your business is new or if you launch a new product.

However, you have enough data to make reasonably accurate forecasts on a monthly average "and anyway, these forecasts can be refined every week or every two weeks depending on the information you have gained.

The first step is to review your sales process and marketing. Look at the data you have for the number of calls you make each month or the number of visitors you get to your website and see how to convert a large number of new customers or clients.

Then look at the value of each new client or customer. Calculate the average lifetime of each customer based on the information you have - if you are a company product - the average sale value.

Now you can begin to focus on research income and forecasts based on the average number of new customers acquired per month and the average value of these customers.

Other factors should be taken into account, of course. Most of this how long it takes to get money from your customers.

Also, if you have a business that keeps customers, month after month, and recurring revenues from these customers, you should look at the average monthly values, the higher the dropout rate of clients.

Once you have all these variables into play, you can begin to predict monthly, quarterly, even yearly income.

Test, revise and test again

Every month or every week, if you prefer, you can change these numbers and test your predictions against real data. If a slowdown is beginning to happen, you'll be in a better position to be able to do something - may be making more phone calls or to increase the targeted advertising.

One thing is sure, if you stay on top of these figures, you can grow your business stronger and more successful in the medium and long term.
